My whole family has been my support team, each member in their own way.
Joel was thrilled to be asked to be my proxy and when he told his mother, aka my sister, Stevanie, she said, “Car? What car? What kind of car? (He tells her.) THAT car? Miami? I want to go!” When she asked if she could go, I said, “You’ll have to ask your son; it’s his trip.”
She contacted Smithfield and began making travel arrangements. She also began researching Richard Petty, Superbirds, and all things related. She found an unopened toy model of the Superbird #43 on e-bay, and ordered a copy of Mopar Magazine that has a picture of The King’s Car on the cover and complete story and pictures of building the amazing replica.
Mom started researching the net and purchased a set of miniature Superbird and matching carrier for each of us. She watched hours of details about The King, his career and family, and developed a deep appreciation and respect for him and his accomplishments. She has spent untold hours creating this website on Word Press.
Alia drew a lovely ink and water color illustration of The Bird, and her husband, Jason, assisted with some of the technical aspects involved in setting up this site. Their children, Anneliese and Felix, enjoyed watching “Cars” and “Cars 3” with Grandma Stevanie.
Cousin Angie met Joel and Stevanie in Miami and captured great video of the very special moments, whcih we have watched over and over and shown to many friends. She visited Portland and attended the Roadster Car Show in March.
We are a total Superbird Family!
