Took the Bird out for one last 250 mile road trip up the Columbia Gorge to The Dalles Oregon to visit family and friends. The Petty built Superbird restomod with it’s Gen III 392ci hemi averaged 17.5mpg at an average speed of 80 mph @2100rpm over 200 miles round trip. She has a little tire wobble at 90 and she hits an amazing harmonic sound like she’s singing at 82mph. With a slight head wind, that wing was amazing keeping the bird straight as an arrow.
What an amazing last road trip of the season. When Richard Petty said he wished that whom ever won the car would drive it and not make it a trailer queen, that’s what I am doing, per his wish for the cars use. And she needs to get her legs stretched wide open on the freeway. You just can’t do that in town with a car like that. Birds aren’t the best for street light to street light displays, especially when the wing isn’t useful until you hit 80 to 90 mph.
